Joanna M. Egan, MA, LMFT

Hello! I am a licensed marriage and family therapist at Heritage of Hope Counseling. I have a decade of experience working with individuals and families who have experienced complex trauma and severe conflict.

Experience and Education

I know it can be an overwhelming task to select a therapist, especially if looking on behalf of your kiddo or teen, so here is a bit more about me and my experience.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology at Bloomsburg University in 2010, after which I moved forward into LaSalle University’s Clinical Counseling graduate program, where I obtained my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2013.

Since graduating with my master’s, I have worked in various clinical mental health settings, including inpatient, residential treatment, and outpatient facilities. My experience includes working with individuals, families, and couples living with trauma, generational conflict, attachment disturbances, serious mental illness, and significant loss and change.

As a result of these opportunities, I’ve collected a decade of experience working with individuals and families who have experienced complex trauma and severe conflict.

A Helping Profession

Although my path shifted along the way, I knew that connecting with others and supporting healing through relationships was part of my life’s calling early in my career.

Life is hard and has so many complexities interwoven into it. And with that, we bring our complexities, both the good and the bad, into our lifelong relationships. Yet, I believe wholeheartedly we are all capable of change. Sometimes we just need a little help to get there.

When I’m not working…

I’m a daughter, a sister, a wife, and mother to two beautiful little girls – who give me a run for my money!

My family and I enjoy spending our spare time near water, whether it’s the NY Finger Lakes, Delaware Beaches, or even Lake Galena nearby.

Something, most people, don’t know about me is that I’m a musician (a very out-of-practice musician!). I grew up playing piano and singing in every theater company or choir that would take me. I even sang the national anthem at a Cleveland Indians game once!

The times in my life when I’m singing, cooking for the people I love, or outside near water are the times I feel like the best version of myself.

I try to be the kind of therapist I would want to see – an honest, direct, and empathic therapist who is working toward being the best version of herself every day and wants to help you in doing so as well.
